The on-going memory (2013)

In this project I want to document a certain segment of the urban environment by narrating the relation between form and subject matter, the way they interact and create meaning from the historical, political, economic, and cultural points of view. I have chosen one of the most important boulevards in Athens,  Basilissis Sofias, to explore the striking mixture between 19th century neoclassical buildings, characterised by elegance and aristocracy, and the 20th century neighboured constructions, which are very tall, obscure and severe. The  essay develops from the relationship between light and shade, and allows us to  discover hidden connections between structure and function.
